I feel betrayed when the government which is supported by MY tax money, spends that money to kill innocent people in poor countries. I feel betrayed because without my consent I have become an accomplice in massacre.

When do I feel betrayed? Every day. And all I need to do is to listen to the news on mainstream TV. Journalism in the service of power is a good reason to feel betrayed.

Hmmm... Can one really protect one's mind? Protect from what? From the onslaught of propaganda? From the insidious ways in which dominant ideologies infilterate the "sanctity of the individual"? Is protecting the mind really what we need to do? Protection has negative as well as positive implications. When I close my mind to diverse ideas or differing views what am I protecting? My dogma?

queen's park, university avenue, stop at the u.s. embassy, separated by four layers of cops, on foot, on bicycles, on horses and in cars, toronto police and rcmp too, a thick blue and black wall of bodies armed, and a river of flowing colours making a thunderous sound: no to the u.s. agenda, no to bombs, yes to peace, yes to justice, no to state terrorism, no to the police state, no to racism, yes to democracy, no to double-standard democracy, yes to peace, yes to justice...

I have given them my mind as a blank page to write on. They scribble, write and wipe words on the membrane of my tissue and what they desire me to be becomes who I am. I am one day the friend, the next their foe. One day I am the hero the next a discarded memory. A celebrated royalty, or a demonized leader of horror, and all the while, I am buried invisible, I am disguised, I am betrayed.

Let us wake up to the rest of the world, and take our place as one among nations. No, instead America thinks it is the world.

Terrorism can only be destroyed militarily. What other option can the United States exercise? We are living in a world where bloody minded fanatics are bent on dismantling the western world with the blunt tools of mindless violence and not the nuanced discourse of reasoned debate. If any of you have seen the World Trade Center site or lived through that day on the streets of New York, as I have, you might realize that we're not in a graduate school seminar anymore. The United States was violated, and to equivocate over whether it was a deserved violation is like arguing that a rape victim was "asking for it" by wearing a revealing outfit. The barbarians who wrought this destruction must be removed from civilized world. If you really sympathise with the Afghan people, get on a plane and help them recover from years of oppression.

We must speak against the killing and persecution of the Palestinians by the Israeli army in the occupied territories. Our silence makes us accomplices in the genocide.
